SWITCHED ON CHOP
Reworked classics of soul and funk on 'Switched On' Paying homage to the great Funky Moog-lead albums that proliferated in the wake of the synthesizer's invention in the late 60s and early 70s. Chop tackles songs by the likes of Can, The JB's, Issac Hayes, Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Smith via a still-futuristic blend of heavy drums, funky basslines, fuzzy guitars and cosmic keys.
Some words from Errol Richardson designed the cover art for Switched On
"Chop has some incredible analogue gear, and you can hear it in his music. I took an illustrative approach because it seemed like the best way to present as much gear as possible with the greatest degree of control. The equipment itself is already quite visually pleasing. I merely tried to simplify and abstract it onto a 2D grid, and give everything a consistent hue.
"The release is a 2x10" LP in a fancy tip-on style gatefold sleeve. Deluxe packaging can certainly be an incentive for someone to purchase a physical album, but production costs can escalate pretty quickly. Striking a balance between appealing and affordable packaging can be tricky, so it's something we're constantly working on."
